Circly Paper Chain Snake

     Longer and longer!
Circly Paper Chain Snake
What you will make:

Here's a twist on paper chains that is a fun activity for small or large groups of kids. Link rings of construction paper together to form a long multi-colored snake that makes a terrific decoration hung from the ceiling, draped around the room, or framing a bulletin board. Turn it into a contest to see who can make the longest snake, create the funniest (or scariest) snake, or the most creative snake. A great party craft, too!

This craft is well-suited for family, group or classroom craft time, and takes very little preparation by the adult or teen leader.

Here's what you need:
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil and ruler
  • Glue or tape
  • Crayons or markers
  • An active imagination!

This project is rated VERY EASY to do.

How to Make a Circly Paper Chain Snake

Read all of the steps before starting.
Step 1: Project Preparation

Gather the materials needed for making Circly Paper Chain Snakes. If you are doing this project with a group of young children, precut the paper strips.

Step 2: Cut Strips

Select sheets of construction paper in a variety of colors. Cut the paper into 1" (3 cm) strips.

Step 3: Make Chain

Form the construction paper strips into rings and glue or tape the ends together. As you make the rings, link one ring into another to form a chain. Mix the ring colors in any order you like. Make the chain of rings as long as you like.

Step 4: Make a Head

On another piece of construction paper, draw a snake head. Draw a face on the head and cut it out. If you like, cut out a long thin tongue from red paper and glue it to the snake's mouth. Glue the head to one end of the paper chain. Voila! You have a circly snake!

Tip: Make a rattle for the other end of the snake to create a rattlesnake!

That's it! Your circly snake is done!
